Do you like to play games? Apart from having fun, I believe that playing games provide people with a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. In some games, we can take control of the players and collect points to unlock a variety of skill-based characters that help us complete missions. But wait, I'm not going to talk about the virtual gaming experience. Instead, I'd like to share with you all my real-life "gaming experience" at Homey!!!
Hello there! My name is Wei Fang, and I'm a final-year nutrition student from UCSI University. I just completed my 4-month remote internship as a nutritionist intern at Homey. Homey provides a variety of services, including healthy meal delivery and nutrition consultation, as well as public health talks. The company's vision, which focuses on raising health awareness and educating the public about healthy eating, is in line with my desire to inspire those around me to adopt a healthy lifestyle, starting with dietary changes. Despite this being my first WFH experience, I can see positive changes in my skills and mindset as my "gaming journey" progresses. Let's see what characteristics and superpowers I've gained as a result of my transformation!
#1 Effective Communicator and Trust-Builder
Skills: Capable of understanding and communicating information more accurately and quickly.
Benefits: Building trust and rapport with others.
My primary job responsibilities included dealing with customers online and assisting them in selecting the appropriate types of diets to meet their nutritional goals. I've gained more confidence in communicating with customers since learning about response psychology. Putting myself in the shoes of others raises my social awareness and improves my ability to maintain relationships in all aspects of life.
What else? I was honored to represent the company at a physical event held at the International Medical University (IMU) to celebrate Malaysian Dietitian Day 2022. I was able to improve my sales communication skills by sharing product information with the public. Aside from raising health awareness, I met people from various companies and backgrounds and learned about different marketing and health promotion strategies.

# 2 The Active Learner
Skills: Being driven to acquire knowledge and experience on a continuous basis.
Benefits: Be more open-minded and maximize one's ability to influence others through reliable knowledge.
I demonstrated continuous learning during my internship by attending the CDE (Continuous Dietetics Education) meeting every alternate week. The meeting provides an opportunity for everyone to share what they have learned and being inspired by while working. It should be highlighted that the CDE covers topics apart from nutrition and wellness, such as marketing and life lessons. The new information I gained sharpened my intellect, allowing me to better educate those around me on nutrition.
#3 Problem Solver & Decision Maker
Skills: Good critical thinking skills and cognitive flexibility.
Benefits: Increase work efficiency and adaptability to changes.
I gained confidence and increased my ability to make decisions quickly without supervision. I learned how to interpret the customer's needs before responding in a way that meets their expectations. Moreover, I've improved my crisis management skills by taking proactive steps to reduce the negative consequences. Being decisive enables me to devote less time to minor decisions and more time to tasks that improve work efficiency.
#4 Content Creator (Infographics & Video)
Skills: Being more aware of current trends and being creative to create eye-catching content
Benefits: Aids in marketing activities and enhances brand visibility.
During the physical event, I proposed and shot some creative video shots, which were then compiled into reels. In addition, I brainstormed some infographics content about health and nutrition to share on social media. I was given the opportunity to explore and try out different approaches, from writing scripts to filming and editing videos, and eventually created three short health educational videos on various topics.
I'm pleased to see that the reel I created has been shared on the company's official Instagram accountï¼

In conclusion, working as a nutritionist intern at Homey was a wonderful experience. Carrying out various job roles allows me to explore potential future career paths and motivates me to develop broad skills for personal development. It's been a pleasure working with the team and I truly enjoy the company culture. Although the tasks given were mostly new for me, I didn't move back as I firmly believe that challenges are an integral part of the "gaming experience". It enabled me to constantly improve myself and unlock new characters and skills.
So, what are you waiting for? Take advantage of the opportunity to join Homey's internship program and start your own game! Remember, there is no better way to enjoy work and life than to treat them as a game!
